Start your journey in Montenegro in the medieval city of Kotor. Visiting Kotor is discovering the heart of Montenegro. Once you set foot in this place, you will fall in love, guarantee. Due to its famous great walls and beautiful Venetian architecture, it has been an UNESCO World Heritage since 1979. The city is nested between the Adriatic sea and fjords of Kotor. There’s a lot to discover, but here are just few places to start with:

  • The old town: With its paved streets and superb terraces, the old town invites you to lose yourself in the labyrinth of alleys built five centuries ago. Almost every building there has it is own history.
  • The Saint Tryphun cathedral: This medieval catholic church is built in 1166 is one of the oldest in Europe. It is situated in the very centre of the old town.
  • Maritime museum: The museum has been opened to visitors for more than a century. You will find there portrait paintings of some famous families from Kotor, folk costumes, old weapons, as well as sketches of some old boates and it is models.
  • The island church Gospa od Skrpjela: At 15 minutes from Kotor, the town of Perast is located. Its most famous tourist attraction, the island church Our Lady of the Rocks, is a home to many legends.
  • Cat museum: If you love cats, then Kotor is the place for you. You can find cats everywhere, they are of every colour and size. That being said, you should not miss this museum. You will find there photographs of cats and cats, or course.
  • Fortress of San Giovanni: The old town of Kotor is surrounded by the fortifications that are built into the steep, rocky mountains. At the very top, about of 280 metres above the sea, the fortress of San Giovanni is placed. To reach it, you have to take climb 1,360 stairs. A real hiking journey! But, it is worth it, since from there you have a spectacular view at the fjords of Kotor and the Old town.
